Must Keep Dancing

"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak." Isaiah 40:28

I guess all the non-believers are going the long journey on cocaine and caffeine.

Do you think physical exhaustion makes you spiritually spent?

This Little Light Of Mine

"But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry." 2 Timothy 4:5

Listening to the last 11 weeks of my pastor preaching on spiritual gifts, he finally got to mine.

The gift of Evangelism is the endowed ability to speak the word of Jesus and make it relevant to non-believers and is the number one Satan will attack.

The reason I started this blog and the reason I will continue it is to let everyone know the truth of the trite and bright shining neon sign saying Jesus Saves...

We have heard the joyful sound: Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Spread the tidings all around: Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Bear the news to every land, climb the mountains, cross the waves
It's our Lord’s command; Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Shout salvation full and free; highest hills and deepest caves;
This our song of victory: Jesus saves! Jesus saves!

Slip Sliding Away

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4

There are so many stories to tell in New York City.

For example the 20 something coed passed out on the lingering winters cold pavement in his black hoodie and thankfully still bulging back pocket has a Thursday night memory of 3 dollar Jameson shots and a bout of pool hustling gone awry. But can't remember it.

The bearded superintendent who still lives with is ex wife of 30 years and takes the long commute at dawn from the Bronx. He sits on a stoop of a tenement he grew up in and separates the trash from recycling. Hosing the vomit off the steps, he whistles a song of his youth and the changes in these East Village streets.

The young Midwestern nurse in her pale blue scrubs coming off the graveyard shift at Beth Israel hospital hangs her head in exhaustion waiting on the 6 AM L. She administered care to the umpteenth domestic abuse case last night. What she see daily would make her Iowan family cringe and she knows when calls home on Sunday, she'll keep it to herself.

Or the insecure woman who can't fall in love with the image in the mirror so she falls in love with the notion that continual facial reconstruction will emit some joy into her Dolce and Gabbana carrying comfort life. She would cry you the tale of her 3rd ex husband taking her upper east side life and throwing it downtown with the riff raff along with her matching sweater sets. You would seek emotion in her motionless face as she tells you life ain't worth living.

Finally the sleepless Southern girl who smoked cigars and drank cognac at a private billiards bar with a secret keeping concierge who greased his hair back and signed the bill before boarding a bus to quaint Montclair, NJ to shoot an Amex commercial with a band covering strangely melodic Ramones songs.

She meets all of them at daybreak on a windy 1st Avenue and gives them a nod of common understanding. We've all got a life to lead and a story to tell.

But aren't we glad it's just once?

Small Steps In a Big Business Get You Somewhat Closer

"Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes." James 4:14

Nothing
about standing outside in Washington Heights, soaking wet with humility, made me feel like I have made strides in this business. No, flashing a prop camera as spring's beginning dropped huge snowflakes on my shoulders and Donny Wahlberg pushed me aside, stepping on my frozen toes did anything to reinforce my purpose or hone my creative craft.

But I would have to be selfishly missing the point to deny the fact that I all of it is a joke.

I did not spend hours on end, risking the wrath from my older brother for wearing his black Members Only jacket so I could conceivably play my favorite Pink Lady on Grease 2 for nothing.

It is the nights I spent in front of my dresser's mirror singing Hall and Oates hooks and practicing Pat Benatar's swagger so I could work my way full circle to moments like these.

Playing Michelle Pfeiffer's photo double in the reflection of a mirrored tray Zac Ephron's hand double is holding.

Can't you just feel the success?

In all seriousness, this is INDEED a victory.

"So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:31-33

My Turn To Shine

"He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority" Acts 1:7

Flat Bush Avenue does not resemble one stitch of home.
Lined with wig outlets, barbershops, $5 Plus Size Fashion stores, and greasy Dim Sum stalls with freshly caught fish laying on the sidewalk; We've arrived in deep south Brooklyn and I adore it.

My Teamster driver talks to me about coming from a long line of family members married to the union. We seem to hit every pothole and barely dodge the men selling bottled water in the graffiti covered median.
I close my eyes to catch a quick glimpse of daylight rest since the knockoff handbag brigade greeted me early on Canal Street.

I wait in the musty basement of a circa 1900 home full of Little League Trophies and antiquated exercise equipment relaxing my brow and my fist pumping arm I've been shaking at a slimmed down John Goodman while avoiding Camera B.
There's a little satisfaction in the fact casting booked me as an angry protestor and not another upscale woman at a party. I eat two pieces of chocolate to celebrate the small victory and get me through the next scene.

Ring. Ring.

Casting.

"Hello."

"Hi, we're doing re shoots on the movie where you were an upscale party guest, are you available?"

"Uh."

"You will receive three waivers and have Screen Actors Guild eligibility."

"Formal gown and heel is what I do best!"

Hell if the shoe fits, I'm dancing ecstatically in it....

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Giving God ALL the Glory!!!!
As my 784 day search comes to an end.

Ain't it amazing the difference a day makes?

Sink It...Swish

“I write one page of masterpiece to ninety-one pages of shit,” Hemingway confided to F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1934.
“I try to put the shit in the wastebasket.”

Just in case you were wondering where all of my ranting blog posts have gone.

Kurt Vonnegut told me I should find a subject I care about and my "winning" style can only come from the ideas in my head.

I'm regrouping as I find myself adopting the tireless dance of the irritably driven, also know as the New York way; Much to my dismay, resulting in not one creative thought in my brain.

The life of a struggling actress dwelling in a two thousand dollar closet, dealing with the apparent signs of mental aging while juggling a beautiful relationship she's not real skilled at, living in the city she's always dreamed of, second guessing her natural talents and cashing hand to mouth checks she receives exhibiting them, all the while spreading the testimony of Jesus to her chastising liberal peers is quite a life to live...

I just wish I could write it.

This post is a metaphor for the wastebasket.

Another two pointer.

What do you want to read about?**

Keith Richard's LIFE has me intrigued.

Joy-A Novel Concept

"Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy." Psalm 33:3

Surprised by joy -impatient as the wind
I turned to share the transport - Oh! with whom
But Thee, deep buried in the silent tomb,
That spot which no vicissitude can find?
Love, faithful love, recalled thee to my mind -
But how could I forget thee? Through what power,
Even for the least division of an hour,
Have I been so beguiled as to be blind
To my most grievous loss? - That thought's return
Was the worst pang that sorrow ever bore
Save one, one only, when I stood forlorn,
Knowing my heart's best treasure was no more;
That neither present time, nor years unborn,
Could to my sight that heavenly face restore.
William Wordsworth

"The reader who finds these three episodes of no interest need read this book no further, for in a sense the central story of my life is about nothing else.... I will only underline the quality common to the three experiences; it is that of an unsatisfied desire which is itself more desirable than any other satisfaction. I call it Joy, which is here a technical term and must be sharply distinguished both from Happiness and from Pleasure.
Joy in my sense has indeed one characteristic...
in common with them; the fact that anyone who has experienced it will want it again."
C.S. Lewis

Couldn't we all stand to write and read more about it?

"When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains."
Mark 13: 7-9

And Lord knows the first contractions are more gentle than the last.

Stand guard.

And lift up the people of Japan.

Disclaimer: MY BLOG.
MY Reason for not practicing the custom, NOT Reason why you shouldn't...

Is Ash Wednesday Biblical?
The answer is no.
And the custom of Lent?
Nope.

Ash Wednesday is actually of pagan origin and was admitted into the church beliefs of the Catholic Church a few hundred years after Christ.

And well the 40 days of forsaking chocolate closely resembling the repentance or forfeiting sinful behavior, it's what we Christians should strive for everyday.

He's interested in our hearts!!!

Not the observance of a man made ritual.

Lest I Forget

"But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort." 1 Corinthians 14:3

Older; Not necessarily wiser in my vain search for carnal pleasures.
Disappointment reigned supreme last night as I dodged potential projectile vomit victims at 2 in the morning.
Did I really think I would find happiness at the bottom of a $14 Mezcal or amongst the bridge and tunnel children parked on the Beauty Bar dance floor?
How quickly the bombardment of satisfaction temptations beckon me to believe the bullshit.

The material fulfillment I continually seek pales in comparison to the truth I already know and the promise I want to keep.
And a figurative birthday hangover gives me the spanking I so deserve today.
It is the reminder of the spiritual gift given to me on my birthday from the Holy Spirit to edify the broken believers and lift up the constant searchers.
Preaching and teaching the everlasting wonderful glory of our Risen King, the loving Word of God which is my crusty bread, silky wine and full contentment in the desirous world has always been my unbending need.
To forth tell the wonders of His Majesty in my life amongst the bouts of titillating tequila, rocky relationships, and bratty birthday behavior.

I am wrong a lot. Oh, but he is so right. All the time.

This is my story, this is my song.

O for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace!

My gracious Master and my God
Assist me to proclaim,
To spread through all the earth abroad
The honors of Thy name.

Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease
Tis music in the sinner’s ears,
Tis life, and health, and peace.

He breaks the power of canceled sin,
He sets the prisoner free
His blood can make the foulest clean,
His blood availed for me.

TO SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD ABROAD, THE HONORS OF HIS NAME!!!

Thank you Charles Wesley

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain.

Amen.

What's the best gift you've been given?

Masterpiece

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9

The
Artist's Life says to wake up and unconsciously and fluidly write out three pages of thoughts, feeling, angst, and desires without ceasing. These pages are to awaken a greater sense of creativity. They are about anything and everything that crosses my mind in the duration of the exercise and are for my eyes only.

An excerpt:

Today is the first day I will not wear my second hand Maui Jim's to darken my overloaded or dulled senses on my morning commute. The sunglasses that let me drift in and out of consciousness without worrying who is burning holes into the outside of my still delicate eyelids. I won't be weighed down with my character's clothes thrown over my right forearm or feel trepidation of the wardrobe woman's disapproving look. This morning, I will stay idle and listen to the rumbling of full kegs make their pilgrimage to the bowels of the pub for impending consumption. Yes, this day I will drink my coffee slow and resist the urge to body check the poor soul who chose to walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk while I follow the preschool rules of right hand on the rail. Deliberately and with full intention, I will slowly drop ice cubes onto my orchids roots and think this spring, you will bloom. The inclination to make excuses for my sighing is replaced with permission to breathe out fully. Blow it out. And then breathe in. And thanks to Bloomberg, breathe in without the inhalation of cigarette smoke, just exhaust and soot. Soot that gathers on my windowsill and reminds me of the intoxicating air New York City is surrounded with. Air that makes you run amok with the other bulls on auto pilot programmed for success or affirmation or something greater. Air so fulfilling it makes you hungrier. And makes you want to sleep the slumber of the dead.

End Page One.

My last thought was that I should write about others and then I read this relieving reminder.

If writers stopped writing about what happened to them, then there would be a lot of empty pages. ~ Elaine Liner

Why do you keep your thoughts hidden inside?
