I Remember

"Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God" 1 Peter 2:16

Just a friendly reminder of Memorial Day and it's meaning...

The reason this is the land of the free is because of the brave, not the ACLU.

Its Fleet Week in Manhattan and the men and women are roaming the streets in uniform getting their fair share of nods of gratitude.

We are the greatest nation in God's green earth as we live a beautiful life of freedom paid for and graciously given to us as a gift.
This hefty payment was the lives of tens of thousands of men and women who we remember and honor today.

As I give thanks to our fallen soldiers and the ones who answered the call to duty today, I am sorry we are not the United States so many fought and died before.

Lord Jesus, please bless and bring our dedicated and heroic men and women home and may the ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the love of their country be exalted by your presence and grace.

Wouldn't it be nice if our nation rose up and flew right?

Green Acres

"I said, "Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest." Psalm 55:6

The quiet morning on St. Mark's sets the stage for my rapid escape...

It's early, so I know it's all an illusion.

Yep, some folk's like to getaway, take a holiday from their East Village neighborhood.

I'm taking the train on the Hudson River Line, I'm in a New York upstate of mind.

Different Strokes

"The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him." Exodus 15:2

What you talkin bout Willis?

"There's a battle going on in this earth
everyday. Work, school, death, and birth.
There are 6 billion people on this earth,
can you tell me what every single life is worth?

Toke a spliff, look around and see history.
My weapon and my method is no mystery.
I didn't come here to chill. I came here to rock,
to smash the empire with my boom-box." MF

Music is the ultimate healer.
So tonight I exalt the Lord and my much needed clean air weekend with some toe tappin, pickin and a'grinnin at Banjo Jams.
Cause you can't take the soulful south out of the girl.

Aren't I the first to say what might be right for one, might not be right for some?

Might As Well Jump

"Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours." Psalm 86:8

If I close my eyes and concentrate on the sweet sounds of "Under the Boardwalk" from the Ukulele and mouth harp wailing musician at the 72nd street subway stop, I can almost feel my feet in the cold water.
Never mind, that's a drip coming from a rusty pipe above me. And the waves crashing were just screeching metal wheels on metal track.

F-F-F Fame

"He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the LORD your God, as he promised" Deuteronomy 26:19

I can not let it frighten me that New York Times writers have such an ill regard for our country that they are willing to print memos from our own military general shedding light on how we will fight terrorism in other countries. By being leftist, world elitists they are putting all our lives in danger.

But as my preacher says...."We've read the last book and the good news is..We Win."

Working on yet another new original series for cable I don't pay for...The Big C on Showtime.

Took a 5 AM bus to Stamford, Connecticut this morning to sit under the shade of a Dogwood and watch the bored out of their gord, small town drivers rubberneck in their Land Rovers to get a look at beautiful Gabourey Sidibe on their pristine sidewalks.

That...and counted how many times I went to crafty for sustenance.

Apparently big is the new black.

When's my fat break gonna come?

Don't Call Us

"See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction." Isaiah 48:10

It's Monday. I've made a private little deal with myself to only drink on weekends. I'm on my second glass of Rose. Maybe this business is a little too tough on my already shot nerves.

Rule #1--No Cold Reads

You know the scene in the so bad, it's good tearjerker Beaches, where Midler's character brings sheet music to an audition, barely belts out eight bars, before she's told to beat it off the X marked spot and the Soprano comes in joyfully sing Que Sera Sera...as she exits stage door left.

Well this Doris Day rode three trains, directed traffic, leaped through construction, waited five hours in a lobby, rerouted a tractor trailer delivery truck, changed into a polo while running across W 15th and dodged piles of poo only to scream into the door sweating profusely to frantically and poorly portray a warm and friendly mom who doesn't have to combat bad odors in her kitchen anymore, cause her Frebreeze Freshness Bags fight that battle for her.

And out I went.

Soon and Very Soon

"To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy." Jude 1:24

It is the weak that take the lead in cherry picking God-breathed word and using it to their vanity in pursuing righteousness.
It is strength that falls on knees calling on the name of the Lord, confessing they know nothing but the sheer gift of His unrelenting Mercy.

I have never claimed to be better just humbly blessed to be God's child.

It is a clear sign that we are in the last days as our President stands before our nation and condemns The Book of Leviticus and sings zippity doo dah about The Holy Quran and its relativity today.

I don't have energy to fight my own battles let alone the demons charging within others.
I'm crippled this morning by residual sickness and now the looming threat of small claims court by misinformed tenants in a phantom house. A house that was swiped out beneath me, cutting my roots off bluntly and leaving a gaping void.
I've said goodbye but the buzzing Nat in my ear is incessant. And ruthless.

Picking my thoughtful wardrobe for tomorrow's Wal-Mart commercial audition.
She's a middle American suburban mom.
I pass over my black skinny jeans and thread bare grey T and look deeper into my closet for pastels and khakis. A plastic headband and smart shopping shoes.
Who is this woman?
IS SHE HAPPIER THAN ME?
Is she slipping Oxycodone in their PB&J's? *
And will she find that the Glad Garbage Bags have the strength to hold her sanity together?

Candlelit dinner and Prodigy soundtrack with a singer/songwriter Brit, a French chef, a gorgeous Aussie artist, a Jersey born Asian dancer.
We toast our freedom, but inside question the sacrifices of a New York Life and ask ourselves the like, "Is it okay I'm 40 years old and cohabiting with 3 roommates who eat my eggs and smoke dope in my bathroom?"

Me? Not one little bit.
But oh so Worthy is the Lamb.

Shhh

"Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps." Amos 5:23

The slits of my eyes open enough to let the 2 PM light in.

There's a man wrapped in aluminum foil wailing on a bass guitar, dragging an amp behind him and swollen white belly dancers clapping their cymbals over their bed head hairdos. The tiny Japanese women curtsy with grace while the tattooed hoods with crooked Yankee caps beat box and try to conceal their laughter. The maracas chatter rises above the stilt walkers and ABBA's Dancing Queen while the shirtless men in white socks hang from the fire escape, watching with sheer hungover amusement.

Even my makeshift sound machine won't drowned this revelry away.
Either I am severely allergic to stage makeup, manufactured mineral oil smoke, and 14 hour work days or I am what you would call sick as a worn out dog.

If this is the sound of sunshine, I've heard enough.

Did you hear my head hit the brick wall?

Call To Persevere

"But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires."

These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

Be merciful to those who doubt." Jude 1:17-24

An Itch

"Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry." 1 Corinthians 7:1

Not raw eggs hurled with force at their feet or my ipod blaring soft spoken Pet Shop Boys in
bed could chase the noise of the 200 something heinously hungry kids on St. Mark's Place away last night. So why would I question the familiar blond with sleep deprived fine lines at the table, sucking down juice glasses of Spumanti on a Sunday afternoon, just why she gives a shit about the East Village noise ordinance board meeting adjourning immediately.

In search of a Hunter S. Thomspon or a Knut Hamsun novel at the Strand this finally spring day, I begrudgingly walk away with sickeningly sappy while smart Harville Hendrix', Getting the Love You Want" First Edition.

Banks of the Deep End

"I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice."
Ezekiel 34:16

It's evident that all of us are tense.
The senile sexagenarian bum in the black trench on West 72nd threw an entire fresh baguette at a bicycle cop today. When the cop turned around to admonish him, the man boldly stuck out his brown tongue, growled, and farted loudly.
My sentiments exactly.

Consider this, if a day in the Lord is a thousand calendar days. How many days would this have been a millions of years ago when the face of the moon was closer and our days were four hours long? And just how long will our weeks drag on as the moon slinks away from our mad planet?

This is what I busy myself with the days I work at a dull desk.

Scrub and Suds

"Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water." Hebrews 10:22

Tonight's Public Reading of Mary turned my already sour belly as it was a redundant soapbox in a black box theater accusing Christians of being gay hating, stupid racist bigots. Yawn.

The highlight of the morning was burning off my McSorely's dark ale head pain on a Tompkins Square Park bench next to the Rasta in his underwear and eavesdropping on two New York Times reporters discussing their $200 articles.

I've been poisoning myself with notions and potions in order to gain headway on the life I think I'd like to look in on. It's not working.

Yes, let's make the highest court in the greatest country devoid of all Protestants and do this slap in the face with a young Jewish lesbian with absolutely no bench experience because she's an old colleague of Mr. Wonderful. Brilliant scheme!

Today I portrayed a blue blood with bourgeois values, attending a polo match whilst sipping champagne and listening to FDR's Inaugural Address with sheer disdain.

And I hardly had to stretch my acting muscles.

Lasting Nest...

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1

It didn't take long, as I was sitting in the stuffy dinner theater under the sultry candelabras with clove cigarette butts snuffed out in the ashtray in front of me and pushy men in their three piece suits, gulping their bourbon and slinging their phallic cigars over my slender shoulder, just why I was sweating profusely in my 1920's gown.

Secure In the Fact

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”- 1 John 5 14-15

My far far right conservative Texan father told me he was proud of me for speaking the name of Jesus in every left liberal druggie atheist circumstance I encountered...

---No time left now for shame
Horizon behind me, no more pain
Windswept stars blink and smile
Another song, another mile

You read the line every time
Ask me about crime in my mind
Ask me why another road song
Funny but I bet you never left home

On a good day, I know it aint every day
We can part the sea
And on a bad day, I know it aint every day
Glory beyond our reach

Tired but wiser for the time

Three thousand more in two days.---
